Landmine Explosion Kills Three People in Mogadishu

The public are suffering with increased bombing and attacks by insurgence. There needs to be a dialogue otherwise suffering will continue well into 2008.

Mogadishu, (insidesomalia.org) - Two civilians and a policeman were killed on Tuesday after heavy explosion blasted at Howlwadag junction in Mogadishu.

The detonation believed to be a landmine was placed location where Somali police collect dues from public transport passing by, said a Somali Police official speaking in anonymity to insidesomalia.org.

Transport, business and people’s engagements were brought to a standstill and police sealed off all roads in and out of the Bakara Market, the main business market in Somalia.

Another incident, on Monday one person was killed and another wounded after a clash between government forces and insurgence started at Howlwadag Junction near Aden Adde Street at the Ged Jaceyl neighbourhood in Mogadishu.

Insurgence tactics is blueprint of what is taking place in Iraq with booby trap bombs and light attacks which opposition melts into the community. It is affecting the public in general and stopping daily tasks of people.

“Life is already hard as it is, with recent attacks, it takes long time getting about with road closures.” said Sadia Mohamed who has lost her cellular phone after people started to run for cover after gun fire started at scene.

The fighting is causing decline in Mogadishu’s economy.

More the 200.000 people who fled the recent escalation of the between government forces backed by the Ethiopian army live in a make shift huts made of sticks at the Elasha, 18km south west of Mogadishu with out proper shelter, food and less clean water

Somali government weakened by the insurgency fighting vowed try start negotiations with it’s opposition to solve the crisis while international community called for the newly appointed Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein start political dialogue with insurgents fighting against the government in Mogadishu.
